Once upon a time an engineering manager (who also happened to be a beautiful princess) was walking in the foothills of Salt Lake City when a frog hopped onto her foot. She bent down, picked up the frog and put it in her pocket. The frog poked his head out and said, "Hey, if you kiss me, I'll turn into a handsome prince, stay with you for a year and teach you all about engineering management, planning, organization and leadership." The princess simply looked at the frog and smiled. Remember the groundbreaking, late 80s / early 90s sitcom DESIGNING WOMEN? Well, just imagine if the ladies had been DESIGN ENGINEERS rather than INTERIOR DESIGNERS! Sophisticated Julia would be forever going on about how elegant her 3D models and drawings were. Self-centered little sister, Suzanne would comeback with something about how she was more concerned with designer clothes than industrial designs. All the while, in spite of her repugnant wardrobe, Mary Jo would be trash talking everyone’s ANSYS and CAE skills. Charlene would be pretty much the same, delivering kinda offensive, sorta funny one-liners with the bigoted southern charm that only she can... Anyway, we're hiring a DESIGN ENGINEER now!

Responsibilities of the Design Engineer:

  • Work with the Engineering Manager to direct and oversee engineering projects in the mining, drilling and water well industries.
  • Produce new equipment designs and modify existing designs to enhance performance and safety.
  • Provide field support for production, testing and commissioning of equipment in the shop and at drill sites (open pit mines, municipal water wells, greenfield exploration sites, etc.).
  • Perform calculations, manually and utilizing engineering software, to verify equipment safety, specifications and performance capacity.
  • Develop high quality, detailed designs and specifications, including 3D modeling, drawing creation, document control, et al.
  • Follow and uphold strict safety rules and codes, including internal requirements and external regulations such as those set by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
  • Encourage and cultivate an adaptive, cooperative, customer-focused culture, company-wide.

Qualifications of the Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering or closely related field, required.
  • 3+ years’ experience designing welded steel structures (mobile equipment design, highly preferable).
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards including AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), SCM (Steel Construction Manual), etc.
  • Significant experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and stress analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ANSYS and/or CAE simulation software and technologies.
  • Experience creating technical drawings per national standards such as ASME Y14.5.
  • Engineering project leadership / project management background, a plus.
  • Experience with heavy equipment, drilling, mining, steel construction, hydraulic / electric control of equipment, welding, all valuable.
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment to achieve common goals.
  • Exemplary organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including understanding of statics, dynamics, fluid / material mechanics, mineral processing and general engineering concepts.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Join our award-winning, industry leading team of designers, engineers and innovators. We’re working to meet tomorrow’s challenges today by developing unheard of technology and next-level machinery. We’re spawning environmentally-conscious solutions to problems most companies ignore and strive to lighten the impact of heavy industry. Our sustainability has always been based on our ability to locate, retain and develop extraordinary individuals. We deliver creative and reliable products and services to the mining and drilling industries and beyond. We welcome diversity and divergent thinking, encourage collaboration and innovation and are committed to cultivating careers.

[ATTENTION GRABBING INTRO GOES HERE] Remember, keep it simple, stupid… Unremarkable, basic, bland, and, above all, politically correct (probably shouldn’t even use the word ‘political’, bro). The job board bots are watching. Not to mention their ill-humored and easily-offended “human” overlords who don’t get jokes because the joke is usually on them. Applicable info only here, bud. No sarcasm. No satire. No celebrity names. No references to sex, drugs and/or rock n’ roll. Don’t mention race, gender, age or religious affiliation… Uh oh. Now the intro is full of red flags. Dude, are you doing this on purpose? Shouldn’t these be mental notes? What’s the difference between a joke and a rhetorical question?

Responsibilities of the Tech Support:

  • Promptly and professionally process all incoming customer support requests (phone calls, emails and online queries).
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues via outbound calls, as needed (remote recovery).
