Reports to: Engineering Manager

Responsibilities of the Process / Project Engineer:   

  • Work closely with the commercial team to identify, specify and secure new technologies, processes and equipment to improve the company’s business capabilities.
  • Devise and establish methods, routings and manufacturing procedures; prepare operations planning sheets for production and prototype parts; review and update, as necessary.
  • Utilize CAD software to develop drawings and models for new parts and systems, according to customer design requests / requirements.
  • Produce cost estimates for new products and projects and cost sheets for production operations; assist in evaluating major bids.
  • Propose and prepare capital expenditure requests, providing support through data to justify the investment.
  • Help troubleshoot equipment and provide technical support to operators.
  • Work with sales team and clients to improve designs and reduce material and manufacturing costs.
  • Interface with suppliers on production activity, providing assistance, consultation and issue resolution.
  • Travel on occasion to visit customers and suppliers, providing hands-on assistance throughout the development, implementation and improvement of products.
  • Maintain engineering documentation to track the revision history of production parts, to assure correct and timely delivery of parts to customers; prepare reports to document process status and changes.
  • Work with the quality team to develop and test apparatus and procedures.
  • Track and evaluate key metrics to identify areas for improvement; monitor upgrades.
  • Provide thorough instructions for the successful implementation of process changes.

Qualifications of the Process / Project Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant technical field, required.
  • 3+ years’ professional process / project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (aerospace, aviation, advanced materials / composites), very preferable.
  • Background spearheading, leading and managing projects, desirable.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, required (Catia, preferred).
  • Working knowledge of SAP software systems and tools.

Responsibilities of the Engineering Manager:   

  • Direct and develop the engineering team; coordinating and exercising authority for planning, organization, leadership and completion of engineering projects at our new advanced materials / composites manufacturing facilities.
  • Create and coordinate programs and activities to achieve a timely resolution of manufacturing problems and new process launches.
  • Development of manufacturing capabilities to ensure proper manufacturing processing and obtain maximum productivity and quality.

  • Work closely with the Quality Manager to oversee the AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) at our new advanced materials / composites manufacturing facilities; assist with site’s QMS management review processes.
  • Continually strive to drive continuous improvement to meet or exceed quality, health, safety and environmental (HSE) goals and ensure consistent compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Support HSE programs and initiatives to maximize the safety of employees and the community by ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and requirements, ensuing goals are met and an injury-free workplace is maintained; participate in visible safety leadership activities. 
  • Perform quality-related troubleshooting and provide day-to-day engineering support.
  • Track and document non-conformances involving incoming materials, internal departments and customers.
  • Evaluate quality concerns and take corrective actions, including customer notifications, rework and waste management.
  • Manage quality-related documentation, including specifications, inspection documents, testing requirements, and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) configuration and methodology.
  • Assess quality performance using statistical process control (SPC) and Cpk process capability analyses of critical raw materials and production parameters.
  • Interface with customers through various means of communications and occasional visits to show preventive systems in place for customers’ products.
  • Conduct internal quality audits to ensure compliance with standards and propel continuous improvement initiatives; assist quality team in preparation for and performance of internal and external audits.
  • Work cross-functionally to coordinate and implement corrective and preventative action (CAPA) activities to assure on-time, on-quantity delivery.
  • Help educate employees on quality assurance principles and methodologies.
  • Work to assure operators are adequately trained to achieve quality standards in accordance with customer requests; communicate defects and corrective actions involving operators.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and ensure clear communications to operators.
  • Help direct and oversee the Quality Area Improvement Team through continuous improvement activities, utilizing Lean processes and various engagement tools such as kaizen, workout, 6S, problem-solving methodology; work cross-functionally to implement continuous improvement processes.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineers to respond to customer requests, quality escapes and other systemic issues.

Responsibilities of the Design Engineer:

  • Work with the Engineering Manager to direct and oversee engineering projects in the mining, drilling and water well industries.
  • Produce new equipment designs and modify existing designs to enhance performance and safety.
  • Provide field support for production, testing and commissioning of equipment in the shop and at drill sites (open pit mines, municipal water wells, greenfield exploration sites, etc.).
  • Perform calculations, manually and utilizing engineering software, to verify equipment safety, specifications and performance capacity.
  • Develop high quality, detailed designs and specifications, including 3D modeling, drawing creation, document control, et al.
  • Follow and uphold strict safety rules and codes, including internal requirements and external regulations such as those set by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
  • Encourage and cultivate an adaptive, cooperative, customer-focused culture, company-wide.

Qualifications of the Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering or closely related field, required.
  • 3+ years’ experience designing welded steel structures (mobile equipment design, highly preferable).
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards including AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), SCM (Steel Construction Manual), etc.
  • Significant experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and stress analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ANSYS and/or CAE simulation software and technologies.
  • Experience creating technical drawings per national standards such as ASME Y14.5.
  • Engineering project leadership / project management background, a plus.
  • Experience with heavy equipment, drilling, mining, steel construction, hydraulic / electric control of equipment, welding, all valuable.
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment to achieve common goals.
  • Exemplary organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including understanding of statics, dynamics, fluid / material mechanics, mineral processing and general engineering concepts.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
