The Road to Success

This is the Moki Dugway, a particularly scenic stretch of the ShaferTrail Road along Utah’s highway 271 which features steep grades, hairpin turns, and 1200 feet of elevation change in only a few miles. From Cedar Mesa at the top, there are breathtaking views of Valley of the Gods, the San Juan River Canyon, and, on a clear day, iconic Monument Valley. Although a bit intimidating, the road is well-maintained and open year-round. Under most conditions and, with a bit of caution, it makes for an exciting and rewarding detour.

Backroads and byways like the Moki Dugway are analogous to the road to success. Rarely does it look like a smooth, straight, paved highway, with access to services and opportunities at every turn. More often, the path is windy, slow-going, scary for some, and completely unknown to others. It takes more time, concentration, and care to navigate. There are extreme highs and gut-wrenching lows, but, in the end, it’s totally worth it. When you find you have arrived in a place where so few dare to venture, you have truly found success.
